Programme Intent
The Senior People Professional Degree Apprenticeship equips Human Resource (HR) professionals with a toolkit of knowledge, skills and behaviours within their organisations. It will enhance their ability to drive the strategic role of HR and develop their ability to operate as a successful senior people leader.
Practitioners will develop a theory-informed, evidence-based approach to HR practice with an emphasis on its real-world application across different organisational contexts and industries.
Students will develop critical thinking, an ethical mindset and practical HR skills, putting people at the heart of organisations and their HR professional practice.
Implementation
The programme is delivered through a blend of face-to-face immersive learning days on campus, supported by additional online learning and Masterclasses. It will run in March and September each year and apprentices will typically complete in 30-36 months. While theory underpins each module, the programme is applied in its nature and design, to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to succeed within the human resource management (HRM) arena. Building on the latest research evidence and experience of people management in practice, the programme provides apprentices with in-depth insights into theories, practices and key debates in HRM.
Impact
Senior People Professionals will have the knowledge, skills and behaviours to enhance their professional practice and contribute to their organisation’s objectives.

Preparing for EPA
Assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviours and duties is conducted through a holistic End-Point Assessment, working with an external End Point Assessor (EPAO). The outcome of the EPA determines whether the apprentice is competent to undertake the identified occupation.
- Learners will compile a portfolio of evidence during the on-programme period of the apprenticeship and submit it to the EPAO at gateway
- The portfolio must contain evidence related to the Grade Descriptors and KSBs assessed by the professional discussion. Evidence sources can include:
- workplace documentation/records, e.g. policies, frameworks and procedures, people plans or strategies
- communication plans and documents, e.g. presentations, emails, posts, annotated photographs and video clips (maximum 15 minutes’ duration), witness statements based on direct observation and not opinion
The University will continue to support the apprentice until the EPA has been completed. This may include structured learning and training activities after the completion of the degree award. Commitment from the employer to release the apprentice for these activities is required.
