Registered Nurse – BSc (Hons) Nursing (Top-Up)

Welcome to the Nursing (Top-Up) section of this online resource. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with this programme, and don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Programme team for any queries.

Programme Intent

This undergraduate programme is for students who wish to become Registered Nurses (RN) in one of the four fields of nursing; adult, child, mental health or learning disability. Registered nurses who graduate from this programme will be central in ‘providing, leading and co-ordinating evidence-based and person-centred care’ (NMC, 2018:p4). The programme will prepare students to practise in a wide array of health and social care arenas. The public and the profession expect registered nurses to act in a professional manner ensuring high standards of care (NMC, Code of Conduct, 2018). To meet these expectations our ‘Future Nurses’ (NMC, 2018) will value the diversity of their service users and carers in their care, whilst treating them with compassion, dignity and respect. Caring in a dynamic health and social care system will require our graduates
to be accountable and able to act autonomously whilst working effectively in an interdisciplinary team.

Implementation

A blended and flexible learning journey supports learners to contextualise understanding of nursing practice; drawing on peers, qualified nurses and academics to deliver a personalised learning experience, with learning applied directly into the healthcare environment.

Impact

Our graduates will be capable and professional, creative and enterprising, and will build their social and global awareness throughout. In addition to their subject expertise and proficiency, as a University of Hertfordshire graduate, they will be:
• Professionally focused
• Globally minded
• Sustainability driven
• Digitally capable and confident
• Inclusive and collaborative
• Evidence-based and ethical
