Welcome to the Therapeutic Radiography section of this online resource. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with this programme, and don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Programme team for any queries.
Programme Intent
The Programme curriculum has been designed with intent so that apprentices acquire appropriate knowledge and understanding underpinning radiotherapy practice and demonstrate the skills required for the Therapeutic Radiographer role, thereby enabling them to progress to qualified practitioner. Apprentices who successfully pass the EPA will be awarded a BSc (Hons) Therapeutic Radiography degree and will be eligible to register with the HCPC as a Therapeutic Radiographer (a protected title) and apply for membership of the Society and College of Radiographers. The DA standards have been mapped against relevant Professional-body Standards and Frameworks
Implementation
Implementation of the apprenticeship standard is achieved through a blended and flexible learning approach. Attendance begins each year with a University-based academic block, with one day a week OTJ activity thereafter to fulfil the 20% minimum requirement for apprentice programmes. Because apprentices may be employed in Trusts distant to the University, most of the teaching sessions will be delivered on-line using a range of interactive and engaging activities to support learning, however, there will be ‘touch points’ in the year where apprentices will attend the University Formative and summative assessment opportunities measure the impact of curricula delivery and learning to evidence achievement of learning outcomes and document learner progress. These are then discussed and recorded at regular tripartite meetings, taking into account that each apprentice has a unique learning plan which is set up at the beginning with the Initial Needs Assessment and reviewed regularly.
Impact
The DA intends to produce Therapeutic Radiographers who not only display the knowledge, skills, and behaviours relevant to the professional role but also, through study at the University, possess graduate attributes of being:
Professionally focused
Globally minded
Sustainability driven
Digitally capable and confident
Inclusive and collaborative
Evidence based and ethical

Preparing for EPA
The TRDA has an integrated EPA
The EPA starts once the employer and University are satisfied that the apprentice is working at or above a level set out in the apprenticeship standards and that all pre-requisite EPA gateway requirements have been met. Pre-requisite requirements include that the apprentice has completed all practice assessment documents which must be signed off by both practice and academic assessors and the apprentice has successfully completed all modules. These must be signed off prior to the final programme examination board. Module and programme external examiners from the appropriate part of the HCPC Register will have been appointed and verified the standards achieved across the modules were appropriate for the award and comparable to other awards across the Higher Education sector.
