Preparing for EPA

Employer Mentors are trained to guide their learners through the preparation of End Point Assessment. A dedicated online training session takes place 3 months prior to the learner’s end of Training Period which sets out the final stages of the programme for the learner and Mentor, hosted by the Programme Leader.

It is the role of the Mentor to officially sign the apprentice off as “occupationally competent” as a Senior Leader at the Gateway meeting, and the mentor is supported by the Tutor with all the information to make this decision, A comprehensive Gateway to EPA checklist underpins this activity. Our Executive Education team will make all the necessary EPA arrangements in conjunction with the learner and the CMI, the End Point Assessment Organisation.

On Senior Leader, the important milestone of the Gateway meeting is followed by the Strategic Business Proposal development, which runs over 12 weeks. During this time, the learner is at arm’s length of the University, so the role of the Mentor is all the more important. The PRMs cease for this period but are replaced with light touch “check-ins” on the mentor and learner to address any issues beyond the development of the 4000 words SBP. Mentors are encouraged to actively engage with their learner’s preparation for EPA by practising their 20 minute presentation and rehearsing the professional discussion.
